My first exposure to Chiropractic was following a motor vehicle accident when I was about 20 years old. I was having neck, shoulder and low back pain and headaches for several weeks following the accident. After treating at the Emergency room, with my Primary Care Physician and taking both prescription and over-the-counter medications, I was told there was nothing else wrong, but the pain persisted for several weeks. At this point a friend suggested trying Chiropractic. I knew nothing was getting better, so I thought I’d “give it a try.” The Chiropractic Physician completed an examination and then ordered x-rays of my neck and low back. As the Doctor went through the findings from my exam and x-rays he explained why my problems were physical and not chemical in nature. He explained this is why the medications were only offering temporary relief of the symptoms and not completely fixing the problem. He designed a treatment plan for me, based on my specific problems and his findings. After just the first few treatments I started to notice a decrease in my symptoms with fewer headaches and less pain in my neck and shoulder. After another few treatments my low back started to improve also. I followed the treatment plan to the letter, and after a few months I was not having any of the symptoms, my quality of life was much better, and I was back to doing everything I did before.
A few months after completing this treatment phase I was involved in a “small sky-diving accident.” I had a very hard landing and almost immediately started feeling severe low back pain. This, along with more pain when breathing, lasted 3 days before easing a bit. In those days I took the “it’ll get better on it’s own” approach – which I’ve come to learn is not the best approach. After about 7 or 8 weeks I decided to give Chiropractic another crack at my problems. Again within a few treatments I was moving with more ease and able to start getting back into normal activities within just a few weeks. I once again followed a treatment plan designed to correct my problems a saw tremendous results.
A few years later I was involved in another motor vehicle accident, and the light in my head finally turned on. I did not wait to start Chiropractic care, I started immediately and found that my recovery was even faster since I started receiving care more quickly. It was following this treatment phase that I decided I wanted to be part of this profession, become a Chiropractic Physician and share with others what had helped me so much.3D Spine Simulator
