Causes of Neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy is generally a result of nerve damage that causes numbness in the extremities (feet and hands).  Peripheral Neuropathy can be caused by many things, including:

  • Diabetes
  • Chemotherapy
  • Trauma
  • Infection
  • Vitamin deficiencies/poor diet
  • Toxins
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Stroke
  • Kidney problems
  • Liver problems
  • Poor circulation
  • Carpal & tarsal tunnel syndromes
  • Nerve entrapment due to injury
  • Radiculopathy

As you can see peripheral neuropathy can be caused by many factors.  Often, however, the cause is unknown.
